The Elm Street Computer Terminal
49 Elm St., Toronto, ON CA
Manager Technical Services

I performed many functions during my four years at The Elm Street Computer Terminal. As Service Manager, I hired, trained and scheduled a department of five service technicians. The technical services unit provided in-house and onsite repairs, installation of networks and new equipment and pre sales technical support. I developed service contract proposals for Elm Street clients. Later, as an Account Manager, I co-ordinated the service, support and sales for designated accounts. I responded to technical inquiries, recommended hardware and software solutions, prepared quotes and closed sales. My technical background from service and support gave me an excellent understanding of the product which was an advantage in a sales situation.
Throughout my career at Elm Street I was involved with the set up, manning and tear-down of trade show booths for both Elm Street and Apple Canada.

April 82 to March 87
Ontario Science Centre
770 Don Mills Rd., Toronto, ON CA
Host-Demonstrator

The position of Host-Demonstrator involved many different duties: lecturer, organizer, public liaison, demonstration programming, staff training, maintenance and sometimes guide. The Hosts are present on the floor of the Science Centre and explain complex scientific principles to visitors in understandable terms.

The Hosts do public presentations such as the Laser, Chemistry, and Electricity shows. For five years I delivered lectures on science and technology to audiences of up to 500 people. I was the Television Studio Area Head and later Electricity Demonstration Area Head and was responsible for the maintenance of the areas, content of the shows and the quality of the presentations. I was responsible for training new staff to do presentations.
I have also worked for the Ontario Science Centre's travelling show, the Science Circus.
The Science Circus is two tractor trailers full of exhibits which tour small Ontario communities. We would unpack and assemble 50 science exhibits, man the show for up to two weeks and then tear down, repack the exhibits and move on to the next town. One of these exhibits travelled to New York City where I was later hired for a summer by the New York Hall of Science.

April to July 85
New York Hall of Science,
47-01 111th St., Queens, NY
Exhibit Prototyper and Designer

I was responsible for the development and creation of exhibits which would eventually go on display in the New York Science Museum. This entailed the initial stages of development, drawing and detailing, and the building of half scale and working models.

I can't believe you read all that!
