At Guildwood Physiotherapy we are experts in car accidents. We have seen many types of injuries from car accidents, from hundreds of patients, including head injuries, serious fractures, etc... The majority of injuries that we see, however, are whiplash associated disorders. These injuries are the result of your head being thrown back and forth during an impact. The severity and type of injury in these accidents varies widely depending on the speed and direction of impact, the position of your head at impact and the presence or absence of safety equipment (such as head rests or air bags). Because there are so many variables in an accident, some relatively minor accidents can cause serious problems while more serious impacts can sometimes result in little or no injury.

 We assess these injuries, as we do with all patients, to determine the severity and create a treatment plan based on our findings. Insurance companies grade these into WAD (Whiplash Associated Disorders) levels I, II, III. The level that a person fits into is determined by objective testing and is usually a good way to estimate recovery times. Sometimes, however, recovery can be hindered by other related or unrelated circumstances. In the majority of cases we find that patients have little trouble with their insurance coverage.
